DSC 410/510 - Multivariate Statistical Methods
Assignment 2 (deadline: 4pm on Wednesday, October 6)
Practical matters
Jobs example:
Use the "jobscards.xls" spreadsheet from the data page to form cards or slips of paper with
combinations of Location, Salary, and Company Size for hypothetical
job offers.
Rank the cards from 1 to 16, where 1 is the job offer that
you most prefer and 16 is the rank of the least preferred. (Use
all numbers between 1 and 16 and don't allow ties.)
Download the "jobsraw.xls" Excel spreadsheet on the data page and replace the
instructor's rankings in the final column with your rankings (and
replace "Iain" with your 3 digit class ID number).
Send an e-mail to ipardoe at
lcbmail.uoregon.edu that contains this revised Excel spreadsheet
as an attachment.
Empirical Example from p394:
Reproduce the analysis described in the book by following
"empirical example from p394" from the handouts page. This uses the SAS software
available in the lab and requires the "hatco1raw.xls" spreadsheet from
the data page.
You can also use Microsoft Excel to do this analysis - see
"hatco1res.xls" from the data
page.
There will be additional practical exercises assigned as we work
through this chapter - keep an eye on the assignments page.
